Trivial Matters & Open Thread

Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 06:14:10 PM PDT

I've been thinking a lot today about what matters.

I'm a little weary of all of that.

I heated leftover but freshly made (only last night), marinara sauce. My Sis brought all kinds of fresh veggies from her garden and I just made "something" last night that turned out to be a potential winning recipe on yours or even Southern Living's recipe contest Fall 2008.

What's on your mind?

Chef Obama challenges legendary Iron Chef McCain

Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 01:03:24 PM PDT

Breaking !!!

The media world has been turned on its ear by news that upstart Chef Barack Obama will challenge the legendary Iron Chef John McCain in today's food challenge network stunner.

Can it get any crazier ???

Chef Obama, who only two years ago was making sausage at the Springfield, Illinois, International House of Pancakes, has delighted the culinary world by taking centerstage as the latest Chef De Jour.

Hagel a possibility ? I'm beginning to believe it's possible

Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 05:15:58 PM PDT

I don't have a major dog in the VP fight. If I could wave a magic wand it would be without a doubt John Edwards.

Recently, I've been more and more convinced that Evan Bayh was the leading contender for Vice-President.

Today, I've had second thoughts about what might come to be, so follow me over the fold for some speculation . . .

Okay something different: I love Vern Yip

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 06:19:51 PM PDT

Who's Vern Yip you may ask?

Wiki:
Vern Yip (born June 27, 1968 in Hong Kong) is an interior designer based in Atlanta, Georgia. He periodically appeared on TLC's Trading Spaces through its fourth season, and was known for always including silk, candles and flowers in the rooms he did, which were always elegant and lovely in contrast to the often odd and impractical designs from his compatriots. He is one of the panel of judges on HGTV's Design Star. Currently, Yip is hosting HGTV's show Deserving Design.[1][2]

[edit] Early life
Yip went to high school in northern Virginia at McLean High School in the class of 1986. He originally set out with the goal of becoming a physician, as his parents felt it would be a good career for him. After earning two degrees, just prior to entering his pre-medicine program, he changed his mind, and decided to get into architecture.[3] Yip states he would have been quite happy running a design company, and never intended to become a television personality, but he's very pleased with the new show, and he felt it was what he was meant to do.[3]

OK, I'm Lassie, Guess who's Timmy ?

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 04:45:49 PM PDT

I realize that many of our members have been borderline distraught by some of the most recent pronouncements from the Obama Campaign.

I'm nothing, if not loyal.

After about ten days of reading gripes, promises and declarations, some blood oaths,

which I doubt by the way

I'm going back to basics . .  .

America in Drydock

Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 11:45:36 AM PDT

Remember when things were this simple?

Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is such a dream.

Then at some point, we all will face obstacles, overwhelming challenges and almost daily disappointments.
I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Yeah, right. . . Please stop helping me.

The last seven years of Bush/Cheney have drained the country's reservoir leaving us broke, in a moral lowground, facing recession,

Your verse may have changed a little . . .

Row, row, row you boat
Gently down the stream
If you see a waterfall
Don't forget to scream

new repub talking point: William Who?

Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 01:12:35 PM PDT

I'm ready to laser focus my efforts on what's been a major goal in my life for eighteen months now - cleaning house in Washington D.C. and returning sanity to government by electing a Democratic President.

I heard and read about John McCain's interview with USA Today last Thursday. Problem is, he made a comment that has stuck in my head like a bad BeeGees song -  and today, well you'll need to follow me over the fold to find out. . .

Andrea Mitchell reports unnamed sources

Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 06:30:00 PM PDT

I'm channel flipping. Sources say Clinton will suspend her campaign on Saturday. Or is it Friday ?

There seems to be confusion about whether there is an event on Friday which Obama will attend or an event on Saturday too . . . or whether there will be one or two events. Or whether one event is just for staffers. . .

Andrea Mitchell seems to have better sources than many of the media. She says, and I have no link and am  paraphrasing, that Clinton will suspend the campaign with no conditions. One source speculated that she may want her name entered into nomination at the convention.

Obama Surrogates: Let's be smart about it

Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 11:11:38 AM PDT

I know we're feeling a little frenzied today - and the tick, tick, tick of the clock just adds to the suspense.

Throw in a stream of qwazy news headlines, truly BREAKING every five minutes,
tick, tick, tick . . .
and the realization that this is
reallio,
trulio,
almost over !!!!!
has me thinking about how we win in November - which brings me to the issue of campaign surrogates.

So what's with the title?

You'd have to hear it to believe it - some kind of songbird took off with her tunes just about the time we turned on the grill, over and over she sang what sounded just like . . .

Corporate Owned Media takes Exotic Costcutting Measure

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 11:07:37 AM PDT

Under continuing pressure to cut costs, the corporate leadership of all major networks today announced that the daily news anchors and most political analysts will soon be replaced. According to a joint press release, the transition to the replacement anchors and analysts is scheduled to begin on Monday.

This part of the story is maybe not so surprising really, in light of the performance of these folks who many have come to think of as entertainment personalities, not journalists.

So who's the new lineup?

Find out over the fold . . .

Waterlilly and the Suffix that won't die w/poll

When younger generations hear the media blathering about Bitterlilly, Clinglilly, Reverend Wrightlilly,
Flag Penlilly . . .all these lillies, I worry that many may not fully understand the historical significance of this important suffix.
